Gather, children, to hear the
tale of the how the mighty Oopster myth was born.
Once upon a time on a message board not so very far away, a hapless forum member
accidentally posted the same message twice on one board. Rather than deleting
said message, this double-posting pioneer attached a new title to the duplicate
thread, an ominous warning to one and all: "Oops! Ignore this thread!"
Of course, no one heeded her plea and soon the thread began racking up views in
a frenzy of activity! One brave poster took it upon herself to call to the
attention of the others the irony of the situation. Soon members who had
heretofore longed to comment, but dare not, began to post in kind. Soon a
challenge was issued, albeit tongue-in-cheek, that 100 posts be made in the Oops
thread, then 200, and so on.
And on and on it went, the Oopsters living peaceably and in harmony with their
non-Oopstering brethren (sisteren?). The Oops thread became a place for people
to congregate and share jokes, stories, rants, laughs and just generally
bullshit around. The thread grew to massive proportions heretofore unseen on the
forum -- over 150 pages! It became so large that some started to complain.
Eventually the mighty Oops thread was deleted from the annals of history.
But the Oopsters were a hearty people and they banded together to start a new
thread, pledging to keep the subsequent threads shorter. And they did. The
Oopsters laughed and played and happily made asses of themselves for several
months thusly. New friendships were forged and already strong bonds were
strengthened.
Then one day a dark pall settled over the land of Oopster. The details of the
following event are too painful for many to relive and will not be dissected.
Suffice it to say, the Grand Poobahs of the message board made their displeasure
with Oopsing known and that was the beginning of the end of the Oopsters. They
tried to spread their special brand of humor and fun to other parts of the
forum, but it was never quite the same. Until one special day when the Oopsters
found a home of their own. Here. |
